Dial M for Murder is T for Terrific

13 Oct

Alfred Hitchcock is known as the master of suspense and Dial M for Murder only bolsters his reputation. The story is about Tony Wendice (Ray Milland) discovering his wealthy and beautiful wife Margot (Grace Kelly) is unfaithful. He devises a plan to have her murdered and inherit her wealth for himself.

Writer Frederick Knott successfully adapts his own play to the screen, and with Hitchcock in the chair, the film becomes a classic with many imitators since it’s 1954 release. Every scene is superbly shot, as Hitchcock is able to capture suspense and tension with almost the entire film being set in one location. The limited acting space is dynamically used and never feels claustrophobic. There is never a dull moment. The combination of the superb acting, direction, and writing makes Dial M for Murder one of the best suspense thrillers of all time.
