Moonrise Kingdom shines bright

Wes Anderson’s Moonrise Kingdom was easily one of the best films of 2012. However, it remains to be seen whether or not the Academy of Motion Pictures will recognize the film’s brilliance. The famous basketball coach John Wooden once said, “It’s the little details that are vital. Little things make big things happen.” Anderson’s attention to detail is what separates this beautiful film from all others

The story takes place in 1965, on a New England island named New Penzance. Sam (Jared Gilman) is a foster child that has resigned the Khaki Scouts. Suzy (Kara Hayward) is the daughter of a wealthy family who feels isolated from the world. Both adolescents have decided to run away together. The available adults, Scout Master Ward (Edward Norton), Police Captain Sharp (Bruce Willis), and Mr. and Mrs. Bishop (Bill Murray and Frances McDormand) search the island for them.

It is a light-hearted story of young love while tackling some serious issues that kid’s face today.
