Total Recall (2012) should not be remembered

Total Recall (2012) is an ambitious sci-fi film that attempts to separate itself from the original blockbuster starring Arnold Schwartzenegger and Sharon Stone by creating a visually exciting future with a much different set of circumstances. There are a couple elements from the original film found in the script, but for the most part it cannot escape the dystopian world it has created. On the one hand, it was a bold choice to abandon Mars and to travel through the Earth, but on the other hand it becomes too difficult for most audiences to suspend their disbelief.  Although, it would be easy to blame Colin Farrell for not filling Schwartzenegger’s humongous shoes,  the real criticism should be directed towards the miscasting of Kate Beckinsale as Farrell’s undercover wife. There is no connection between the two actors and Beckinsale is given some of the worst lines to say in the movie. The remake falls short of expectations and should not be remembered.
