Writer/Director Judd Apatow delivers a poignant comedy that delivers laughs as well as being real and meaningful.

Alison Scott (Katherine Heigl), an attractive and ambitious E! television host meets Ben (Seth Rogen) a twenty something slacker at a bar while celebrating her work promotion. They drink….They laugh…They have sex, which leads to an unexpected pregnancy. Both agree to work through the pregnancy together with the support of their friends and family, particularly Alison’s sister Debbie (Leslie Mann) and her husband Pete (Paul Rudd), who give them a future snapshot of how they will look down the road.

Apatow has a keen sense at being very vulgar at times but also able to show genuine feelings in the characters. This film has a lot of depth, but I think Seth Rogen is a stretch for Heigl (even drunk). The film tends to drag a bit, but with a playful cast and script, Knocked Up delivers a modern romantic comedy.
