The Prophecy is a horror fan’s guilty pleasure

6 Oct

The Prophecy is one of those movies that has developed a cult following because it delivers on so many levels. The writer/director Gregory Widen best known for his Highlander script assembles a talented cast of actors to perform his original script (at the time). Christopher Walken plays the archangel Gabriel as a charismatic villain fed up with God’s affection with the human race. He is searching for the soul of an evil Korean War veteran hidden that has been hidden in little girl by the archangel Simon (Eric Stoltz).  Virginia Madsen and Elias Koteas attempt to protect the girl, but the stakes are raised when Lucifer (Viggo Mortensen) enters into the conflict. The actors carry this story to heights that would not be possible with a less talented cast.  This is one of those movies you will never buy, but you will watch it every time it comes on television. It is a horror fan’s guilty pleasure.
