Breakfast at Tiffany’s is an elegant classic

8 Sep

Breakfast at Tiffany’s is easily one of the best romantic comedies of all time. The film has several scenes that are considered iconic and have since become part of pop-culture including the opening shot, involving Audrey Hepburn window shopping, while eating breakfast, the crazy cocktail party, the black dress with the cigarette holder and of course one of the greatest original songs “Moon River”.

The plot follows Holly Golightly (played beautifully by Audrey Hepburn), an aspiring socialite looking for a wealthy man. Her neighbor Paul Varjak (George Peppard) is a struggling writer and kept-man of his married editor. Neither are happy with the way they are living but go upon doing it anyway. Their friendship is guided with great chemistry and makes the whole convoluted relationship between them work. The borderline offensive performance by Mickey Rooney is my only criticism. Like, Hepburn’s perfect black dress, this is the perfect film.
