Midnight in Paris

Midnight in Paris is one of Woody Allen’s finest. He seamlessly mixes reality with magic. Set in Paris in 2010, the film follows Hollywood Screenwriter Gil Pender(Owen Wilson), his fiancée Inez(Rachel McAdams) on a trip to Paris. Gil is writing his first novel but needs to go for late night walks to find inspiration.  One night he stumbles upon a spot that will transport him back to the 1920’s Paris at midnight.  He ends up meeting his favorite generation of artists and writers.

Woody Allen has a knack for picking the right actors for his films. Wilson is the perfect choice as his stunned demeanor tries to make sense of his once in a lifetime encounters. I thought the script was wonderful, but I did not like the relationship between Wilson and McAdams. It felt a little forced. Other than that, the film delivers with flawless directing, rich colors, art direction, and a fantasy that any artist would want to experience.
